I am a passionate and dedicated academic librarian with a strong commitment to social justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in information and learning environments. My research interests centre around critical librarianship, information literacy, and the democratisation of knowledge. I am particularly interested in dismantling systemic biases within dominant knowledge systems and empowering marginalised voices.
In my role as an academic librarian, I actively engage in initiatives that promote EDI and strive to create inclusive and participatory learning experiences for all students. I am a strong advocate for critical information literacy and have developed innovative pedagogies to teach students about systemic bias and encourage critical engagement with information sources. I have a particular interest in using Wikipedia as a pedagogic tool, and was recognised for my work in this area as UK Wikipedian of the Year in 2020.
My research explores the intersections of information access, power structures, and social justice. I have published on topics such as bias in knowledge organisation systems, the role of libraries in decolonisation efforts, and the ethical implications of data usage in academic settings. I am a firm believer in praxis, translating my research insights into actionable strategies that promote equity and inclusion within information ecosystems. The #ebookSOS campaign, which I co-founded, is one example of my commitment to advocating for fairer access to information.
I am an active member of the library and information science community and regularly present my research at conferences and workshops. I am also committed to public engagement and frequently contribute to discussions on the future of libraries, open access, and copyright reform. Currently, I serve as a trustee of Wikimedia UK, contributing to the organisation's mission of promoting free and open knowledge.
I am deeply motivated by the transformative potential of information and believe that libraries play a crucial role in fostering intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and lifelong learning. I am excited to continue my work in advancing knowledge equity and creating a more just and inclusive information landscape.
